QualityTools, sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, provides you with a more focused method of searching for tools via the Detailed Search page. Here, you can enter words or phrases in the Keyword query box. You may also use the various pull-down lists provided to specify additional search criteria and/or limit your search. Using different query boxes and/or pull-down lists "focuses" your search and increases the precision of your results. Note that it is not necessary to fill in all the options, only those that are needed for your search.
The Detailed Search contains several ways to enter or select terms, including:
Note: Entering or selecting two or more different criteria will automatically join the criteria together, creating a narrower search.
For example: Entering the word "diabetes" into the Keyword query box and selecting the Tool Category "Treatment" will search for all tools related to "diabetes" AND "Treatment".

| Developer Type | Limits the search for a particular developer type (e.g., Federal Government Agency (U.S.), State/Local Government Agency (U.S.), Academic Institution). |
| Developer | Limits the search for tools developed by a particular developer (e.g., Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). |
| IOM Care Need | Limits the search for a particular IOM care need category (e.g., End of Life Care, Getting Better, Living With Illness, Staying Healthy). |
| IOM Domain | Limits the search for a particular IOM domain (e.g., Effectiveness, Patient Centeredness, Safety, Timeliness). |
| IOM Priority Area | Limits the search for a particular IOM Priority Area (e.g., Immunization - children and adults, Tobacco dependence treatment in adults, Major depression - screening and treatment). |
| Tool Category | Limits the search for a particular tool category (e.g., Diagnosis, Education, Treatment). |
| Tool Format | Limits the search for a particular tool format (e.g., Fact Sheet, Questionnaire/Survey, Toolkit). |
| Association with Vulnerable Populations | Limits the search for populations vulnerable to health care quality problems that are separately identifies for sampling (e.g., Children, Homeless, Medically Uninsured). |
| Publication | Limits the search for the publication date of the tool. |
